Drive thru Grab 'n' Go Meals will continue to be provided during Distance Learning!

As of August 31, 2020 the USDA has extended our previous waiver to serve all children (1-18) at no charge.

Breakfast and Lunch will be available at 4 school locations; Faller Elementary, Inyokern Elementary, Pierce Elementary, and James Monroe Middle School.

Please note: Students do not have to attend the school of which they choose to pick up a meal.

Students do not need to be present at pickup.

Meals will be provided Monday and Wednesday ONLY (except holidays) from 11:00am - 1:00pm

Starting Monday September 14, 2020

SSUSD Child Nutrition Dept will be implementing a 2-day serving cycle.  This plan will allow parents to drive through 1 of the 4 serving sites twice a week while obtaining multiple days of food.  The previous Parent Square poll showed 11a-1p as the most favorable pickup time.  Below is an example of what a week of food will look like;

Monday- 2 breakfast entrees, 2 lunch entrees, 2 (4oz) juices, 3 cups equivalent fresh or cupped fruit, 1.5-2 cups equivalent fresh or frozen vegetables, 1 quart white milk, 1 pint chocolate milk

Wednesday- 3 breakfast entrees, 3 lunch entrees, 3 (4oz) juices, 4.5 cups equivalent fresh or cupped fruit, 2.25-3 cups equivalent fresh or frozen vegetables, 1 quart white milk, 1 pint chocolate milk

Good nutrition and learning go hand in hand.

Sierra Sands Unified School District is a sponsor of the National School Lunch Program and the School Breakfast Program. Our department’s goal is to provide nutritious meals, thereby increasing children’s ability to learn. To accomplish this goal the Sierra Sands Child Nutrition Department develops and promotes high quality meals, designed to provide our students with a significant portion of their daily nutritional needs. Menus are planned to ensure children receive the necessary balance of calories, fiber, and nutrients that will enable them to learn and grow.

The Nutrition Services department is made up of a team of food and nutrition professionals that are dedicated to students' health, well being and their ability to learn. We support learning by promoting healthy habits for lifelong nutrition and fitness practices.

Meals, foods and beverages sold or served at schools meet state and federal requirements which are based on the USDA Dietary Guidelines. We provide students with access to a variety of affordable and appealing foods that meet the health and nutrition needs of students.
